View details is the read-only path to understand a controlled document: human-friendly title, status, semver, type, ownership, review schedule, custom attributes, and—where permitted—secure access to the current file. It requires document_management:view_details in addition to library access.
Open the modal
In the document library, expand Actions on a row and choose View details. The modal focuses on consumption: auditors and control owners can verify metadata without risk of accidental edits.
Preview and download
Depending on configuration, the detail flow can fetch presigned URLs so authorised users preview compatible formats (such as PDF) or download the active version. Links are short-lived, which supports least-privilege access to sensitive ISMS artefacts.
Relationship to version history
View details emphasises the current baseline. For older semvers, open Version history instead to compare rows, restore, or remove stored files per your retention policy.
Permissions in practice
Organisations often grant view_details broadly to staff who must read policies, while restricting edit_documents or delete_documents to smaller groups—mirroring ISO 27001 expectations for segregation of duties.
